What’s In My Backpack 1

DSC_0372When Rudy interviewed me on the Cascade Hiker Podcast, I couldn’t help but laugh when he asked me what’s always in my backpack. I was sitting in my room at the time, so pulling her out of the closet, I just started naming stuff off—the silly things I personally always carry. These items always stay in it, so when I leave for a hike, all I need to do is add in some layers, some food and lots of water.

Today I thought I’d share and challenge you all to spill the beans as well. What’s in YOUR backpack? What are the quirky things you can’t leave behind? Share a picture on Instagram and use the tag  #NWHMBackpack I’ll be featuring your photos throughout the week!

And now…onto my backpack. Here’s what’s always in it. Keep in mind I always add extra clothes, food and water. Yes, these aren’t the “10 Essentials“, but I’m always hiking in a group and between all of us, we’re more than prepared. However, I’m totally NOT saying that this is what you should carry. This just happens to be what’s in my bag all the time and after looking at what I carry and really thinking about it while writing this post, I think I need to add in some matches, a compass and a pocket knife.

Okay, here’s what’s in my bag!DSC_0371

1.Backpack-REI My sister gave it to me for a Birthday/Mother’s Day gift last year and I’ve loved it! It’s a day pack size so, it’s smaller, but it’s been great.

2.Rain Cover- eBuy 35L Storage Backpack Rain Cover for Hiking Camping Traveling This has been one of the best $6.99 I’ve spent! It’s easy to put on, it’s bright and a great deal, for a good cover.

4. Travel Size Hand Sanitizer

5. Homemade Bug Spray

6. LifeStraw Water Purifier– I haven’t had to use this yet, but it’s a great thing to have, just in case.

7. Renew Intensive Skin Therapy Lotion by Melaleuca
