When I was a kid, my mom’s nickname was Grainy, because she ate so incredibly healthy. But my sister and I? We ate lots of Mac ‘n cheese and Top Ramen, with healthy things here and there, although they weren’t our favorites. Now as an adult, I have very similar taste as my mom did and I don’t think it’s because she forced veggies down me as a kid (she didn’t), I think it’s because she was a beautiful example of a strong, healthy and positive woman.
She influenced me, by living it out, not preaching it. With 3 kids of my own, we have our share of likes and dislikes in our home. Rather than stressing, I try to offer healthy options, while also being realistic. Mostly I want to lead by example since my kids are learning what’s “normal”, by watching.
