Whether you’re after snow, a great cup of coffee, a short family hike, a new playground to explore or a great restaurant, there’s so much fun to be had during winter in Western Washington. Don’t let these cold days keep you house-bound. Each of the ideas below feature great coffee, hot food, fresh air and something beautiful to see. 

Day trips are wonderful for so many reasons! Less packing, less money (some of these are practically free) and at the end of the day, everyone gets to sleep in their own bed. Grab your family and go have fun!

Cama Beach, Camano Island

Top things to do: Eat at the Cama Beach Cafe (so cute and YUM)• Stop by the Pierre Fauvet Pastry •Get coffee at Camano Island Coffee Roasters •Hike out from Cama Beach, to Cranberry Lake (read more about Cama Beach here)

Fairhaven, Bellingham 

Top things to do: Grab some Woods coffee and walk along the waterfront •Let your kids play on the playground (right next to Woods Coffee) •Eat at Fairhaven Pizza •Hike the all or part of the Interurban Trail

Deception Pass Area

Top things to do: Drive or hike up to the top of Mount Erie •Hike around Deception Pass State Park  and pack a warm picnic to enjoy by the water •Visit Bowman Bay

Mount Baker Area:

Top things to do: Go sledding at Picture Lake •Eat pizza and have a drink at the North Fork Brewery
